Testimonials

“We had a sibling group of older children whom we presented three times at the Adoption Resources Exchange in Toronto. Each time we received few or no responses for this sibling group and were beginning to despair that a permanent home through adoption was becoming a dream more than a reality. We registered our sibling group with CWC and received several responses of interest.

We are delighted to discover that the dream is actually a reality, as through this program we have identified an excellent adoptive home for this sibling group. Without this program, I do not know where we would be right now. Our sibling group is excited to move on and, finally, this worker is able to say, “Yes” when asked by these young girls, “Have you found us a home yet?”

The process for registering children on the CWC program was seamless and the workers were always very helpful. Without hesitation, we will use this venue again when trying to find an adoptive home for our children.”

The Adoption Council of Canada is Canada’s voice for adoption. We envision a world where every child and youth in Canada has a permanent, supported family. We know that permanency can come through adoption, legal guardianship, kinship care or customary care.

We support and encourage people along their adoption journey, and we connect them to the families and the resources they need.

There are thousands of children and youth in the care of our provinces and territories who are waiting for permanent families. There are thousands of families across Canada who are willing to adopt – but most prospective parents don’t know enough about the children and youth who need permanent homes. They may not realize the kinds of supports those waiting children and youth need.

Traditional recruitment methods have not bridged the gap between what waiting children and youth need, and what waiting families want.

That’s why we need active, creative efforts to recruit families who will meet the need – and the right - of every child and youth in care for a permanent, loving, safe and supportive home. Our Canada’s Waiting Children photolisting is one of those tools that supports targeted child-specific recruitment.

As a social worker, once you register with CWC, you can refer waiting children and youth on your caseload to our photolisting. You also gain access to our database of family profiles, to see if any of the families listed with us might be a prospective match for the children/youth you are working with.

To receive log in information, please register with us here.

If you would like to receive more information about any of the families in our database, contact us. We will also be able to connect you to a family’s social worker.

Why an internet photolisting?

Of the varied approaches that social workers, governments and agencies use to recruit permanent families for waiting children and youth, child-specific, targeted recruitment is the most effective. This type of approach highlights actual children and personally engages interested families.

People connect to pictures. They respond to descriptions of waiting children and youth.

We promote photo-listing because it works.

Thank you for visiting Canada’s Waiting Children, and for the vital work you do to help the children and youth on your caseload find permanent families.
