Canada's Waiting Children

Canada's Waiting Children

Canada’s Waiting Children is a national photolisting service that the Adoption Council of Canada provides.

We list photos and background information about some of the children and youth in Canada who are waiting for permanent families. These children and youth are currently in the care of provincial and territorial child welfare agencies across Canada. The agencies are responsible for sending us the profiles and pictures of waiting children and youth.

CWC is the only national child-specific photolisting program in Canada. Only Canadian residents can apply to receive information about a child or youth listed on this website.

This site also provides the opportunity for potential families to make an official "Expression of Interest" in a child/youth once they are registered with our program. Additionally, registered families may also upload a family profile. Social workers across Canada will be able to search the family profile pages if they are looking for families for children and youth on their caseloads.

The Adoption Council of Canada is not an adoption agency. We provide Canada's Waiting Children as an information and referral service. Our role in the process is to help find families for waiting children and youth. We make Canadians who want to expand their families through adoption or other forms of permanency aware of some of the children and youth who are available. We also enable social workers to view family profiles. The social workers and child welfare agency or province/territory who is legally responsible for the child, youth or sibling group listed here makes the decision about which family to place that child, youth or sibling group with, in consultation with the social worker or agency with whom the family is working. The ACC does not play a role in the final determination of the match.
